It's a timely subject as September marks the 50th anniversary of his coup in Chile (1973).Mr. WILDE visited Chile at various times during the 17-year dictatorship and lived and worked there for more than a decade between 1993 and 2008. This was a period in which Pinochet remained a prominent figure in national life - despite the restoration of elected government in 1990 - until his death in 2006.
Mr. WILDE is a political scientist (PhD Columbia, 1972) and has written extensively on Chile democracy, human rights, and historical memory in Latin America.
