Thursday, January 24th: "American Pie" Unraveled

“bye bye miss American pie…” a famous chorus of a song, written in 1971, actually the longest song (8mn) to reach the top of the charts in the 70’s and still popular today in campfires and karaoke.

It could have been called “Once upon a time in America during the 60’s”, since it is a piece of American history which portrays that period in a very symbolic way.

The meaning of the lyrics has long been debated, and for decades, the author Don McLean declined to explain the symbolism behind the many characters and events mentioned. Trying to go underneath those symbols makes you feel like Robert Langdon ( Dan Brown’s main character) deciphering the “Da Vinci Code”!
