Thursday, June 21st: Chester Comes to Arcachon

Hubert Bonin, professeur émérite à Sciences Po, will give us a presentation on the celebrated African-American writer, Chester Himes, who lived in Arcachon.

His novels reflect his encounters with racism. As an expatriate in Paris during the mid 1950s, he published a series of black detective novel based in NYC's Harlem. One of his more well known titles, Cotton Comes to Harlem (1965), was made into the acclaimed film by the same name in 1970.
